Understanding how to improve your chances of conception is just as important as the conception itself. Many couples trying to conceive are not cognizant of the importance of sexual intercourse at the right time. A woman can only become pregnant during the period of her fertile window and identifying that fertile window is a good way to start.

The fertile window is the day of ovulation (the day an egg is released from the ovary) and the five days beforehand. Couples having sex during this period increases their chances of getting pregnant.

It is important to note that 12-24hours after ovulation occurs, the woman most likely will not be able to get pregnant until the next cycle. This is because if fertilization doesn’t occur within that 24hrs, the egg moves to the uterine lining to be absorbed in preparation for shedding during menstruation. Therefore, it will no longer be present in the Fallopian tube where fertilization occurs.

How do you know when you’re ovulating?
– A noticeable change in vaginal mucus few days before ovulation, where it looks and feels like egg albumin (clear, sleek and slippery consistency).
– Temperature spike during ovulation can be an indicator if monitored closely. Progesterone hormone causes the temperature rise
– Also using an ovulation tracker can help estimate your fertile window.
